Module 11: Video Review

Explain why you selected each of the two videos
I picked these two videos to watch because they are the ones I found the most interest in. I also feel though I have a little background on expression and pop art and that would be the art style I would enjoy making too.  Also, those two artists seem interesting to learn about.
For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned
Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the '50s and '60s
  • The way color and form being used
  • Language of abstraction-captures emotion
  • Other ways to think about painting-through texture
  • Properties of the artist materials
  • Biblical themes
  • Andy Warhol- famous figures and events
  • Using comics strips as inspiration
Matisse and Picasso
  • "Drawing is painting with less material"- Picasso
  • Matisse-more organized with his thoughts
  • Picasso-thought of himself as a worker
  • Picasso spent longer on a painting
  • Picasso believes in cubism
  • In 1912,  Picasso invented the first collage with oilcloth
  • Matisse makes portrays of his wife
  • Picasso takes Matissa objects and "amplifies" them
  • starts with an idea and goes into something else
  • Picssao would just over a painting that he didn't like for the day before.
How do the videos relate to the readings?
The reading can tie back to some of the information that was in the videos. An example is in the reading about Pissaco. It talks more in-depth about his oilcloths and others and while that video is a bunch more ideas and reasons.
What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts? I like the films. They again give more depth on the understanding that is going on in the reading and providing with more images of artwork.
