1. What is the theme of your art exhibit? What is the title of your exhibit?
the theme of my art exhibit was the ocean. the title was called ocean-themed art exhibit
2. Why did you select that theme? Why did you select that title?
I selected the theme because I like the water and looking at nature. I also thought it would be fun to find some interesting scenery paintings.
3. Name three artworks you have selected for your exhibit (title, artist, media, size, year, etc) and explain why you selected the piece and how they fit your theme.
Title: the great wave of Kanagawa. Artist: Hokusai. Size: 25.7 x 37.9 cm. Year: 1830-1831. Media: Ink. This
piece of artwork fits my theme of oceans because it is showing the huge shaped wave,
that is about to hit the land. I am not sure if the artist was trying to
show how reckless the ocean can be at times when it hits landfall and objects
in the water or showing a sense of nature and its beauty. This also has movement in the ways that the waves are
coming down.
Title A mermaid. Artist: John William
Waterhouse.Size: 96.52 x 66.68 cm. Year: 1900. Media: oil canvas. I picked this piece because it
helps show what was thought to be found in the ocean. I also have an interest in
mermaids and this is showing what the artist thinks a mermaid looks like and
does. It is a sense of form.
Title: Rooms by the Sea. Artist: Edward Hopper. Year: 1951. Size:74.3 x 101.6 cm. Media: oil paint. I picked this painting because it
can show what a person who might be on vacation would see through there hotel
room. It there ocean view! This work of
art has great value, line, and contrast in it.
4. Discuss any challenges you have had with this project so far. Put questions out to your peers for advice on your project for some input/feedback/constructive criticism.
I have trouble trying to find different pictures that didn't look the same. Where were some websites that you found works of art on? I was also looking for animal ones, but couldn't find a lot. Did anyone find any if your theme had to do with your theme?
